Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy today urged Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to release the funds required for the second phase of the expansion of the MMTS train services.
(The first phase of the MMTS project was initiated six years ago.)
In a letter to the CM, Reddy sought the immediate release of the aforementioned funds for the second phase of the MMTS expansion project, which had been initiated following the rise in demand for a more widespread rail network, and assured the CM that the BJP unit in the state was ready to extend all the support that was needed for the speedy completion of the same.
"The Telangana government and the Centre had both signed an MoU in which the expected cost of the MMTS project had been identified as approximately Rs 816.55 crore. While the Centre has already released Rs 789 crore for the works, the state government has released only Rs 129 crore so far. Since the expansion can be completed only if the state government contributes its share of Rs 544.36 crore, I would urge it to relase the pending Rs 414.14 crore at the earliest," he said.
Reddy reportedly also highlighted the need for the urgent completion of the works saying that it would help many citizens avail themselves of an easy and affordable mode of transit.
The minister later published a tweet from his official Twitter handle addressing the matter, in which he said, "As the prestigious Yadadri temple's redevelopment works near completion, I have written to Hon'ble CM of Telangana seeking the release of dues to the Indian Railways, to run MMTS Train Services which will provide easier & affordable commute to the pilgrims visiting the temple. (sic)"
Earlier in the day, the BJP leader took part in the launch of the state-wide Covid-19 vaccination drive along with Health Minister Etala Rajender at Hyderabad's Gandhi Hospital.
