Telangana's Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy said that the state government was committed to the overall development of the industry, particularly the pharmaceutical sector.

"It will be the endeavour of the Telangana government to see that Telangana's share of the pharma market grows from the current level of 20% to 40% in the near future," he said while addressing a press conference as a curtain raiser to the 4-day Indo-Global Pharma Expo & Summit 2015 to be held in Hyderabad from 23d to 26th July.

The minister assured all possible help to the proposed pharma summit.

The theme of the pharma summit is "Innovations and Advances". The Marigold and Green Park hotels will be the venues for the meet.

A curtain-raising press conference was called for in the city on Monday to brief people about the event. Besides the Health Minister, Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council Director General Dr P V Appaji and the Indus Foundation President S B Anumolu participated in the conference.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Appaji said that India was the pharmacy of the world, and that its pharmaceutical market would touch $35 billion by 2020, more than double from the current year's $18 billion. The domestic market was Rs 80,000 crores, he said, with the two Telugu states contributing nearly 33% of the national market. The 11,000 acres of land allocation for a pharma city by the Government of Telangana was something extraordinary that hadn't been seen by him anywhere else in the world, he said.

Anumolu added that The Indo-Global Pharma Expo & Summit 2015 would provide an opportunity to the participating companies to display advanced pharmaceutical technologies, products and services to the business visitors from across the globe. The event would be attended by more than 4,000 business delegates and eminent speakers. The delegates would include CEOs and top executives of the pharmaceutical industry, and top professionals of various allied industries.

The event will be organised in support with The Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) and the OMICS Group. (INN)
