Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman M Kodandaram on Friday rubbished media reports that the demand for a Telangana state has weakened.
Kodandaram was talking to media persons after taking out a padayatra, wearing black badges, from Sundarayya Vignan Kendra to Indira Park, to mark the reversal of the Centre's Telangana announcement on 23 Dec 2009.
He said that the agitation for statehood has been intensified, with the stalling of the state Assembly and the Parliament after the Centre reversed its stand on Telangana.
Stating that the JAC has chalked out an action plan to intensify the agitation, he said that the JAC would announce its plan soon after convening a meeting with its members.
He said that the JAC would convene a meeting with those who are making concrete efforts towards achieving a separate Telangana.
Kodandaram said that the Congress and the TDP are responsible for the delay in the announcement of a Telangana state by the Centre.
Earlier, flagging off the padayatra at Sundarayya Vignan Kendra, Telangana Rashtra Samithi Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao stated that the Centre had reversed its decision on Telangana due to the indifferent attitude of the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party.
He said that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had suddenly taken a U-turn after the Centre's Telangana announcement on 9 December 2009.
He alleged that then Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Assembly Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu should all be held responsible for blocking the process of the formation of a Telangana state.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bandaru Dattatreya, TNGO leader Swamy Goud, Telangana Gazetted Officers union president Srinivasa Goud, TRS MLA K Tarakarama Rao and TRS politburo member Nayani Narsimha Reddy took part in the padayatra. (INN)
