Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Saturday demanded the immediate release of the members of the Telangana Advocates Forum who were arrested while conducting a rally in the Old city in support of the `Telangana March’ scheduled to be held on September 30.
Talking to media persons at the Salarjung Museum, Kodandaram took serious note of the "police highhandedness" and their resorting to arrest the Telangana activists for having conducted a peaceful rally to promote the Telangana March. Though the Telangana Advocates Forum members took the permission for rally, he criticised the police for having arrested the protesting lawyers despite the fact that the latter had the required permissions for the rally, and demanded their unconditional release.
Apart from the Advocates JAC members, the police also arrested CPI leader and former MP Aziz Pasha. The Telangana activists accused the police of acting at the behest of some Seemandhra leaders by obstructing the rally.
Meanwhile, the AP Civil Rights Forum city secretary Linganna criticized the actions of the police and termed the arrest as being illegal. Stating that the police had already given written permission for the Telangana March, he demanded immediate release of all advocates from police custody. (INN)
