In yet another successful sting operation, the sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today caught Telangana Warehousing Corporation MD Bhaskara Chari and general manager Sudhakar Reddy red-handed while the two were taking a bribe.
The ACB officials caught the two officials taking a bribe worth Rs 75,000 from a hapless victim, a retired employee of the corporation named Sunder Lal, in the MD's Nampally office.
Reports suggest that Chari had demanded the amount in return for sanctioning the release of some retirement benefits to Lal, who had retired nearly three years ago.
Sick of the harassment he had been facing for the past three years, Lal finally refused to comply with the MD's demands, and reported him to the ACB instead.
"I have been coming to the office in the hope that I will be able to receive my retirement benefits for the last three years. However, my superiors have only harassed me instead of helping me," Lal said.
Following the incident, the ACB also searched the MD's L B Nagar residence.
Meanwhile, the bureau's Andhra Pradesh wing was also able to apprehend another corrupt official today. ACB officials arrested an Irrigation Department deputy executive engineer for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh in Vijayawada.
