An Excise Inspector and a government teacher were arrested by the Telangana ACB in a corruption case involving illegal gratification through UPI transactions.
According to officials, Gundeti Ramu (Prohibition and Excise Inspector, Karimnagar Urban) and Jakkani Venu (Secondary Grade Teacher at MPPS Obulapur in Jagtial district) were taken into custody on March 17.
Ramu allegedly routed bribes through Venu's account using him as a benami, between 2022 and 2024.
During searches, officials also seized Rs 20 lakh in unaccounted cash.
During his tenure as SHO of Vemulawada, Ramu had allegedly received illegal gratification from a jaggery merchant through friend and former colleague Venu on a regular basis via UPI transactions between 2022 and 2024. Venu reportedly transferred the amounts from his SBI and UBI accounts to the accounts of Ramu and Ramu's father.
Ramu allegedly used Venu as a benami and performed his duties improperly and dishonestly to obtain illegal gratification.
Both were arrested and produced before the Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases in Karimnagar.
The case is under investigation. The details of the complainant have been withheld for security reasons.
