The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) today launched 50 electric buses in Warangal.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, along with Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Konda Surekha, MP Kadiyam Kavya, MLAs Nayini Rajender Reddy, Revuri Prakash Reddy and Nagaraju, Finance Commission Chairman Rajaiah, Warangal Mayor Gundu Sudharani and other leaders, flagged off the buses at the Hayagriva Grounds in Hanumakonda.
Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar said that 112 electric buses had been allocated to the district, of which 50 were being launched, and the other 25 would be on the roads by Sankranthi.
The minister took the opportunity to speak about the achievements of the transport department. "Within 48 hours of coming to power, the Congress government started free bus travel for women in the RTC. So far, 125 crore women have availed theselves of the free travel facility in the RTC buses and saved money worth Rs 4,350 crore," he said.
He also said that the occupancy in the RTC had doubled because of the RTC employees working tirelessly.
