Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka today said that Telangana's growth rate was less than the national growth rate.
Presenting the State government's full-scale budget for the financial year 2024-25 in the Assembly, the Deputy CM said that Telangana's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in 2023-24 was Rs 14,63,963 crore, and that while the Indian economy had recorded a growth rate of 7.6% in 2023-24, Telangana had recorded 7.4% during the same period.
"It is evident that Telangana's growth rate is less than the national growth rate," Bhatti Vikramarka said.
He further said that the per capita income of Telangana in 2023-24 was however Rs 3,47,229, compared to the per capita income of the country of Rs 1,83,236.
"Compared to the national per capita income, Telangana's per capita income is higher by Rs 1,64,063. However, at the same time there is a gross inequality among various districts. For example, the per capita income of Rangareddy district is Rs 9,46,862, while that of Vikarabad is Rs 1,80,241. This indicates that the economic development among districts is grossly inequal. The State government will take measures to bridge the gap among districts," Vikramarka said.
He also said that Telangana's economic health could be at risk, and that measures needed be taken to balance expenditure with revenue generation and reduce dependence on borrowing.
