Ignoring the request of Chief Minister K Rosaiah, the Telugu Desam Party on Friday went ahead with its bus yatra for the Babli Irrigation Project site in Maharashtra.
The yatra, led by party president N Chandrababu Naidu, started from the TDLP at the state assembly.
Onboard 4 buses were TDP party MPs, MLAs and other leaders, along with Lok Satta Party leaders.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah had, late on Thursday, telephonically requested Naidu not to go ahead with the bus yatra. He is believed to have told Naidu that he had already made it clear that he would lead an all-party team to New Delhi on the Babli Project issue and said that there was no urgent need for the yatra.
Rosaiah also called senior TDP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao to convince him of the reasons for calling off the yatra.
The Chief Minister's personal interest in urging the TDP leadership to call off the bus yatra over the project came after he received a call from Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, urging him to deter the main opposition party from going ahead with the tour.
Meanwhile, Section 144 was imposed by the Maharashtra government on the areas bordering Andhra Pradesh.
The Maharashtra government has also increased police presence in the area, and set up barricades on the roads leading to the Babli Irrigation Project site.
