The state government on Tuesday officially condemned the lathi-charge by the police on the Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and members of his team who are under detention by the Maharashtra government.
According to a statement released to the media, Chief Minister K Rosaiah said, "I strongly condemn the lathi-charge on Chandrababu Naidu and others by the Maharashtra police while they were being shifted from Dharmabad on Tuesday morning."
Rosaiah also appealed to the TDP supporters in the state to observe restraint and not damage public property in the state.
The Chief Minister said that the government is working to find a solution to the contentious issue, and also sincerely working to protect the rights of Andhra Pradesh under the Constitutional framework of the country.
Rosaiah said he will lead an all-party delegation to prime minister Manmohan Singh on July 23, on the issue.
He appealed to all political parties and people to join hands with the government in finding an amicable solution to the problem.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of senior TDP leaders met Governor E S L Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan, and sought his immediate intervention.
