The state Cabinet on Thursday demanded that former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu immediately issue an apology to the Telugu people for disrespecting them.
Talking to media persons on Thursday, cabinet ministers Raghuveera Reddy, Botsa Satyanarayana, Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Sunita Lakshma Reddy, Viswaroop and Vatti Vasant Kumar charged Naidu of using disparaging words against Chief Minister K Rosaiah, during his press conference late on Wednesday.
The ministers then showed the media persons a video clipping aired on a television channel in which Naidu is heard saying that, 'that old man will realise our suffering, if he is beaten up with shoes by the Maharashtra police like we were,' an apparent reference to Rosaiah.
Speaking on behalf of the 6 Cabinet Ministers, Raghuveera Reddy said that this sort of language was unbecoming of a former chief minister and the leader of the opposition.
He criticised Naidu for claiming that his detention was an attack on the self-respect of Telugu people, during his detention in Maharashtra. Raghuveera Reddy further said that Naidu had belittled the Telugu people by using such language against a respected and senior public figure who was himself a Telugu.
Expressing the cabinet's repulsion over Naidu's choice of words, Raghuveera Reddy further said that the former chief minister is lowering his standards by the day.
He reminded Naidu that during his heyday, he was known as a 'hi-tech' chief minister and was seemingly well respected across the globe. By lowering his standards, Naidu is losing his respect, he said.
The agriculture minister also wondered who would take the blame if the people of Maharashtra vent their anger over the TDP chief visit to that state on the Telugus living there.
The cabinet ministers demanded that Naidu apologise to the entire Telugu populace for his actions, and not just to Rosaiah.
