TDP leader Nama Nageswara Rao stated that the state government was cheating the poor and the middle class by with its promise of giving a kilogram of rice for just one rupee.
Talking to media persons after paying tributes to party leader Damacharla Anjaneyulu on his death anniversary, Nama Nageswara rao condemned Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for announcing a scheme "to cheat people".
He sought to ask the Chief Minister to explain how it was possible to give a kilo of rice for Re. 1 when the price of rice in the open market is around Rs. 35 per kg.
He demanded that the Chief Minister release a white paper on the collection of taxes from various departments and how they are being spent for the welfare of people.
He stated that the financial position of the state government was not sound enough for the implementation of such populist schemes. (INN)
