Peaceful protests by TDP leaders and workers in Narasaraopet of Guntur, today, took a turn for the chaotic, post indiscriminate lathi charge by the police. A dharna was led by TDP leader Kodela Sivaprasad Rao against alleged irregularities perpetrated by minister Kasu Krishna Reddy and his son during the ongoing union elections of local organisations. In the ensuing hulaballoo, Sivaprasad fainted, and several TDP leaders were injured.
The behaviour of the police in the face of what seemed like a peaceful protest has been called into question.
The protests began in front of Kasu Krishna Reddy's residence, where the police came in with lathis and arrested the TDP leaders. Further lathi charge was showered upon TDP workers who started a dharna right outside the police station. Later, the leaders were discharched, but protests continued outside Kasu Krishna Reddy's residence, and so did the lathi charge by the police.
Sivaprasad, who came ahead to pull up the police, fainted due to weakness and constant jostling by the crowd.
