Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP president Chandrababu Naidu today said that the Party was floated for the welfare of the downtrodden, farmers and poor people.
He was addressing a public meeting after participating in the Janchaitanya Yatra at Vemuru in the Guntur district.
The TDP always supported and took care of the people's welfare, he said, adding that despite many problems for the residual State and its deficit budget, the government continued to implement welfare programs.
It was the TDP government which initiated for the first time the construction of pucca houses in the country, Naidu claimed.
The Chief Minister said that he had seen for himself the problems and woes of the people when he undertook a padyatra in 2008. After that experience, he ensured that the government formulated programmes to ensure hassle-free administration for the people.
The TDP government had waived off Rs 24,000 crores in farmers' loans, and the pension amount was increased to Rs 1,000 from Rs 200 benefiting 44 lakh people, he stated. The government was spending Rs 6,000 crores on just pensions, he mentioned, and added that various other welfare schemes were being implemented in the State.
