The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday staged a protest against the increase in petrol price.
Raising slogans against the centre, the TDP leaders staged a dharna at Basheer Bagh Crossroads demanding the withdrawal of hike on petrol prices.
Former Mayor T Krishna Reddy, along with TDP GHMC Floor Leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy and about a 100 activists of the party, shouted slogans against the UPA government at the centre and the state government.
Talking to media persons, former Mayor Krishna Reddy said that the state government was equally responsible for letting the prices of petrol go out of hand by remaining silent. He said that the state government was silent since it believed that public attention would be diverted from the issue of rain-hit farmers to the hike in petrol price.
The former Mayor warned the government that unless it made an announcement of increasing the subsidy on petrol on the floor of the Assembly, the TDP would intensify its agitation over the issue.
Krishna Reddy reminded that the United Progressive Alliance government had hiked the petroleum prices 6 times so far during its second stint in power.
