AICC Secretary Digvijay Singh on Thursday asked the local Congress workers to focus on winning the forthcoming GHMC elections.
According to sources, Singh reviewed the party's preparation for the by-elections to the Warangal Lok Sabha and Sanathnagar Assembly seats. He also discussed preparations for the elections to three municipal corporations including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Describing the GHMC polls as quite prestigious for the party, he directed the leaders and cadre to concentrate on winning these elections.
Later he addressed a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan along with TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and Leaders of the Opposition K Jana Reddy (Assembly) and Mohammed Ali Shabbir (Council).
He told media persons that the Water Grid was a major scam in the making as hundreds of crores were being spent on the scheme without even a detailed project report.
He also claimed that the NTPC power project in Nalgonda had already been approved by the previous UPA regime, and that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was trying to take false credit for the same.
Singh alleged that the TRS government had failed to fulfill the promises that it had made to the people during the elections. There was no progress on the promises of giving 12% reservation to Muslims and tribals, he stated. Similarly, the promise of 2BHK flats for the poor had remained a non-reality, he said. (INN)
