Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao today instructed the GHMC and other local body officials of the state to take the necessary measures to mitigate the damage caused by the ongoing rains and to "meet the needs of public" in the rain-hit areas of the city.
Speaking at a high-level review meeting on the matter, Rao directed the officials of the GHMC area and the adjoining districts that were hit by heavy rains recently to remain on high alert, and asked them to take steps to protect the lives and properties of those residing in rain-hit areas.
"As heavy rains have resulted in severe water-logging in many locations and districts, the state machinery needs to work at the field level to provide the necessary help to the public. Form special teams and deploy disaster response units to carry out rehabilitation and rescue operations in the low-lying areas of the state immediately. Ensure that the people affected by inundation are provided with essential commodities and medicines. GHMC officials too should not take leaves at this point. They must first work to provide relief to the people of Hyderabad on a war-footing," the minister reiterated.
GHMC secretary Arvind Kumar and other top level officials were also asked to monitor the situation and to ensure the safety and security of the public.
With the IMD predicting more rainfall in the state, the government is currently on high alert.
