Revanth Reddy Urges Governor To Expedite Azharuddin MLC Approval
Azharuddin is not currently a member of either Legislative House, and has only 10 more days to continue to serve as minister that way.
Hyderabad | 19th April 2026
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhavan and requested approval of the names of two individuals nominated under the Governor's quota for MLC seats - M Kodandaram and Mohammed Azharuddin.
Although Azharuddin is not currently a member of either Legislative House, he is serving as a minister, and is reaching the end of the period for which is is allowed to continue that way - six months.
According to constitutional provisions, an individual who has taken oath as a minister must be elected to one of the Legislative Houses (either the Assembly or the Council) within six months of assuming office. By April 30, Azharuddin will have completed six months in office. This means that if he is not elected to the legislature within the next ten days, he will be required to relinquish his ministerial post.
The file sent by the government regarding the MLC seats to be filled under the Governor's quota has been pending at Raj Bhavan for some time.
Azharuddin's name is included in this file. He can continue as a minister only if the Governor approves the file and a gazette notification is issued by April 30.
Against this backdrop, it is understood that the CM met the Governor to request him to do the needful.
