Vishakapatnam ranked 3rd and Hyderabad 22nd in the country in a cleanliness survey conducted by the Centre titled Swachh Survekshan 2017.
The survey was conducted among 434 cities, the report of which was released on Thursday.
Hyderabad, which stood 19th last year, declined by three positions this year. The city however stood first among the metro cities - viz. among Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.
Tirupati in AP stood 9th.
Releasing the report, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that Indore was the cleanest city in India and Bhopal ranked second. Gonda city from Uttar Pradesh was the dirtiest, and Bhusawal in Maharashtra stood second-last.
Gujarat has the maximum of 12 cities in the top 50, closely followed by Madhya Pradesh with 11 and Andhra Pradesh with eight. Uttar Pradesh accounted for half of the bottom 50 cities in the ranking.
