There have been 2,518 cases of crimes against women during the year, as against 2,335 during the previous year. Among these, dowry murders rose from 11 in 2014 to 13 in 2015, and dowry deaths from 48 to 55. Cases of harassment rose from 1,352 to 1,487, rapes from 139 to 152, outraging of modesty from 503 to 577, and bigamy from 52 to 56. Commissioner of Cyberabad Police C V Anand, addressing the media, said that the 8% increase was actually a good sign since it meant that women were coming out more now. He said that crimes which were specifically against women were defined as crimes against women.
Stating that the police were giving top priority to women's protection, Anand said that eve-teasing had decreased with the formation of the She Teams.
Moving on to other areas, Anand said that 3,896 road accidents took place in 2015, and that 420 chain-snatching cases were filed in the Cyberabad limits.
The Cyberabad police district also recorded the highest property recovery (79%) in the State during the year, Anand claimed. He also said that there were no custodial deaths / violence, and minimal complaints against the Cyberabad Police.
Anand also said that 193 cyber crimes cases had been reported in 2015 as against 259 in the previous year. In prominent cases, the police had arrested a Mohammed Abdul Majid who had created fake Facebook profiles on different names, chatted with about 200 school girls and collected pictures from them, and then threatened and harassed them for money. They had also arrested 21 Nigerians involved in matrimonial cheating by creating fake profiles in matrimonial sites and chatting with ladies by various modes and then making them deposit Rs. 10 lakhs cumulatively.
Giving an area-wise breakup, Anand said that 8,600 cases were filed in the L B Nagar limits, and very few in the Kandukuru limits.
The Commissioner stated that policing 70 lakh people spread over 3,700 square kms with just 7,000 police officers was a real challenge. "Our slogan is effective policing," he said.
