The Cyberabad Police today nabbed one of the two accused involved in the recent
HDFC ATM heist that took place in Kukatpally. 12 special teams have been set up to nab the other accused who is still absconding.
(During the heist, the criminals had fired three rounds of bullets at the workers of a cash management agency called Writer Safeguard Private Limited, Srinivas and his assistant Naveen, while they were loading cash into the machine, and at ATM security guard Ali Baig. They had then proceeded to loot over Rs 5 lakh from the men before running away from the scene. 74-year-old Baig, who shot right below his chest, later succumbed to his injuries.)
Speaking about the arrest, the police said that the accused had committed several other offences under the Dundigal police station limits as well, and had gone to jail several times in the past.
The duo had repeatedly threatened some employees of a money transfer firm using a gun at Jeedimetla on April 16 and decamped with the money the employees had.
Both the accused had been living in the Dundigal area where they worked as daily wagers. While one is a native of Bihar, the other is from Nanded in Maharashtra.
