A speeding car mowed down four women in the Kothirampur area of Karimnagar after its driver lost control, in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident also left three others seriously injured.
One of the victims died on the spot, while the remaining three died while undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
The victims have been identified as Fariyad, Sunitha, Lalitha and Jyothi, and were all daily wage earners.
The car had four persons at the time of the accident. All of them fled the scene.
The police registered a case and are investigating the matter. They found that the car which had caused the accident had nine pending traffic challans.
The relatives of the victims have demanded that the state government pay suitable compensation to them. State Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar authorized an immediate financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 each to the family members of each of the victims.
