The onset of the southwest monsoon in Telangana is getting delayed this year.
The monsoon entered AP two days ago. It has also hit some parts of Rayalaseema, and will gradually expand across the State. Officials of the Hyderabad Meteorological Department said that the monsoon was moving slowly now, and would spread across AP in the next one week.
"After that, it will spread in Telangana," they said. The southwest monsoon is likely to enter Telangana by the 18th of this month, and will take time to expand across the State.
Meanwhile, temperatures are rising in Telangana due to the delay in the monsoon. Officials have warned that hot winds were likely in some parts of the State due to strong winds from the west. Heat wave conditions are likely in several districts including Mancherial, Adilabad and Kumuram Bheem Asifabad. Light to moderate rains are likely to occur at isolated places in the State on Thursday and Friday. The highest temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at Tangul in Karimnagar district on Wednesday.
Met officials have also warned farmers to remain vigilant as the onset of monsoon has been delayed. It advised them not to sow seeds in haste, and to wait till the monsoon hit the State.
