The Telangana Congress Monitoring Group on Sunday asked the Centre to hasten the process of the formation of a Telangana state.
Talking to reporters after giving a representation to Union Minister Manish Tiwari at Gandhi Bhavan, TCMG organiser and PCC General Secretary G Niranjan said that an early decision on the statehood issue would put an end to suicides by the youth. He said that the Union Minister was given a detailed representation on the recent suicides in the region for the statehood cause which was the result of a statement issued by Central leaders on January 27.
"We request you to carry the message forward to the high command and the UPA government to resolve the long pending and genuine demand for a separate statehood for Telangana. The people of Telangana have been fighting for a separate state for the last several decades. About 350 people died in the 1969 Telangana agitation, and more than 1,000 youth and students died in the recent agitation for separate statehood," the TCMG leaders said in their representation.
"Several gentlemen agreements, formulae and packages during last six decades have proven futile. The urge of the people for Telangana has remained the same, in spite of all efforts to keep the state united. An early decision, in this regard, will halt further sacrifice of lives," they said.
Besides Niranjan, PCC Spokesperson B Kamalakara Rao, Intellectual Cell chairman A Shyam Mohan and Doctors Cell chairman Dr D Shankar were also present. (INN)

Atleast they are giving representations. All politicians from Telangana should forget the 'chillar' benefits they are deriving from Andhra presence in HYD/nearby and develop Telangana in rural locations by demanding a separate State. Unfortunately Indian voters cannot express their option on major issues except thru Polls which are dominated by other considerations and influences. Suicides will stop the moment jobs are assured water is made available and industries are restored. It is a shame that Telangana ministers are not delivering the needs of the T people at all.
