Skywalks From Hyderabad Metro Stations Underway
The government is seeking proposals to construct more skywalks connecting Metro stations to adjacent commercial and residential complexes.

In a strategic move to bolster public transportation and reduce reliance on private vehicles, the Telangana State government has initiated plans to construct skywalks connecting Hyderabad Metro stations to adjacent commercial and residential complexes.
This initiative aims to enhance commuter convenience and address the city's escalating traffic challenges.
Several skywalks have already been established to improve pedestrian access, such as:
- Punjagutta Metro Station: A skywalk connects the station directly to the Hyderabad Next Galleria mall, facilitating seamless movement for commuters.
- HITEC City Metro Station: This station features a dedicated skywalk linking it to the Next Galleria mall, enhancing accessibility for passengers.
- Raidurg Metro Station: A 1-km skywalk connects the station to strategic locations within the Raheja Mindspace campus, providing convenient access to numerous corporate offices.
- Uppal Metro Station: Telangana's first-ever elevated walkway, inaugurated in June 2023, connects the station to six different locations around the Uppal junction, significantly easing pedestrian movement in this busy area.
A skywalk project is also underway at the L B Nagar Metro Station - the Vasavi Group is developing a skywalk connecting this station to the Vasavi Anandanilayam residential complex, which comprises 12 towers over 25 acres. This will offer residents direct and safe passage to the metro network.
In addition, all 57 stations in the initial phase of the Hyderabad Metro, covering 69 kilometers, feature pathways that allow individuals to cross from one side of the road to the other. These pathways are accessible to both Metro passengers and the general public, enabling safer pedestrian movement across busy roads.
The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is actively encouraging private developers to participate in constructing more skywalks. Discussions are reportedly underway for similar projects at multiple metro stations including Nagole, Stadium, Durgam Cheruvu and Kukatpally.
Private entities interested in collaborating on these initiatives are invited to contact K V Nagendra Prasad, Metro Rail Station Retail Officer at L&T Metro Rail, on 9900093820.
