The Special Investigation Team sleuths today interrogated prominent Tollywood director Puri Jagannadh in connection with the sensational drugs case rocking Tollywood.
The SIT officials questioned Puri at the Nampally Abkari Office. Puri came to the office at 10 am along with his son Akash, brother Sairam Shankar and lawyer. The investigation started at 10 am and went on till 8:30 pm, and the questioning was done in-camera.
It is learnt that the officials, under the leadership of Excise Commissioner Chandravadan and Excise Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal, questioned Puri under the supervision of a psychologist. In the first phase, Puri answered 20 questions. The SIT officials asked, among other things, about Puri's frequent Bangkok visits, to which he responded that he used to visit Bangkok for film shootings. He also informed the SIT officials that he knew only film industry people and had no outside friends.
The officials interrogated Puri on the links of the main drug peddlar Calvin. They asked the director what sort of links he had with Calvin, who was selling cocaine and heroine to several people in the film industry among others.
They also questioned him on his communication through Whatsapp with Calvin, since apparently Calvin sent messages on the bank transactions of Puri in Whatsapp.
(Puri claimed in a video he posted on Twitter late in the day that he had told the SIT that he did not know Calvin.)
It is learnt that the SIT is interrogating the film industry artistes under the Excise Department's Section 67.
