Simultaneous Polls Dangerous For Democracy: Revanth Reddy
The Telangana Congress chief said the one nation - one election proposal would bring in a presidential form of governance, and create danger for the southern States.
TPCC chief Revanth Reddy today said that the plans of BJP-led union government to hold simultaneous elections in the country were dangerous for its democracy.
Addressing media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Reddy alleged that the BJP was bringing the proposal in order to take away the rights of the States, and asserted that the Congress was totally opposing the proposal, pointing out that the party's Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had refused to be part of the committee formed by the union government on the issue.
He alleged that the one nation - one election proposal was being mooted to bring in a presidential form of governance in the country, and said that such governance would create danger for the existence of the southern States of the country.
He also alleged that the BRS was in favour of simultaneous elections as it was the B-team of the BJP, pointing out that CM K Chandrashekar Rao had written a letter extending his party's support for the conduct of simultaneous elections in 2018.
Speaking about the upcoming Assembly elections later this year in Telangana and other States, Reddy said that the Congress was leading in all the surveys conducted in five States of the country, and that in Telangana the party was poised to get 38% of the votes with the ruling BRS getting only 31% of the votes.
