Former minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Monday demanded that AICC President Sonia Gandhi be given the prestigious Bharat Ratna for her contribution to the country.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises, Shankar Rao said that Sonia Gandhi had played a major role in protecting the country's economy when the rest of the world was facing a financial crisis.
He said that Gandhi's role in making India a strong country was highly appreciable, and therefore, she should be given conferred upon the Bharat Ratna award.
He said that Sonia Gandhi deserved the Bharat Ratna for granting statehood to Telangana region, and other sacrifices that she made for the country, too.
Rao said that the BJP had lost its shine, and people had started rejecting the party after just 100 days.
He said that the results of by-elections were a clear indication that the Congress was in revival mode. (INN)
