Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka today flagged off 25 mobile fish-vending vehicles at Praja Bhavan.
She travelled in one of the vehicles and inspected the Mobile Fish Retail Outlets (MFROs) sanctioned to women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by the State Fisheries Department under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Samrudhi Yojana (PMMSY) and Blue Revolution.
Speaking on the occasion, Seethakka said that the vehicles originally costing Rs 10 lakh each were being provided at an effective cost of just Rs 4 lakh after a subsidy of Rs 6 lakh, and advised the women to take full advantage of the opportunity.
The minister said that the State government was also implementing a loan insurance scheme for the women's SHGs, and creating employment for women through 17 types of businesses.
She also said that the Congress government aimed to transform ordinary women into millionaires by launching various women empowerment initiatives across Telangana.
Seethakka also spoke about Savitribai Phule on the occasion. "For the first time in the country, Telangana is officially celebrating Savitribai Phule Jayanti. Savitribai Phule demonstrated that women are not confined to the home. She is revered as a visionary who showcased the transformative power of education," she said.
Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Saikumar, poet Jayaraju, Karimnagar District Library Chairman Sathu Mallesh and Jan Vignana Vedika President Ramesh also participated in the program.
