Almost a week after the imposition of a curfew, the Vizianagaram town is returning to normalcy. Following an improvement in the situation, the authorities relaxed the curfew for 9 hours from 7am to 4pm on Friday.
Curfew was imposed in the town, last Saturday, after anti-Telangana protests turned violent and lead to arson, looting and attacks on public, and private properties.
The protestors also targeted the properties of PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana and his relatives. Although the town was already witnessing protests, they were intensified after the Union Cabinet gave a nod for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana.
So far, more than 300 people have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the acts of violence. Large number of security personnel have been deployed across the town, and other areas in the Vizinagaram district to control the situation. Although the authorities have relaxed curfew, Section 144 CrPc is in force.
Sources say that curfew may be completely lifted on Saturday if the situation continues to remain peaceful. (INN)
