Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday found fault with the State government over the registration of an FIR against AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi and a few other Congress leaders for supporting the students' movement in JNU.
It may be mentioned here that a case of sedition against the Congress leaders was registered in the Saroornagar Police Station on Sunday.
The TPCC chief said that the lawyer who had filed an FIR against Gandhi had no proper knowledge of the law and its provisions about sedition.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, the TPCC president said that lawyer, Nagender, was an AGP (Assistant Government Pleader) in the transport department and a member of the ABVP.
"It means he is a BJP sympathizer and also a government representative. I want to know how the TRS government got involved in the filing of these cases, and in what capacity the lawyer filed the cases," he said.
He also said that despite the guidelines of the Supreme Court that sedition cases could be filed against a person only in cases of abetment to widespread violence, this case was lodged against Congress leaders who were not inciting any violence whatsoever.
"The Congress severely condemns this act of filing cases against Congress leaders," he said.
He also said the Telangana government had removed some 26 sub-castes from the BC list, which would be sheer injustice to those castes. These castes were included in the BC category during the days of united AP.
"We will surely raise this issue in the next Assembly session," he said.
