BRS MLA and former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav today intensified his attack on the Congress government, and said that the protest demanding a separate Secunderabad Municipal Corporation would continue until the demand was fulfilled.
Addressing a press conference at his office in West Marredpally, Yadav said that the police had initially granted permission for a peaceful rally but revoked it unexpectedly late at night, and then attacked the protestors. He shared videos purportedly showing police brutality during the rally. However, despite attempts to derail the protest through arrests and intimidation, the resolve of the protestors had only strengthened, and police action and arrests would not deter the movement, he claimed.
Citing Secunderabad's 220-year-old heritage and history, he spoke about the city's significance to the identity and self-respect of its people. He reiterated their determination to oppose the government's move to merge Secunderabad with the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, and said that they would not back down.
The BRS MLA criticised the formation of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation "ignoring Secunderabad's civic requirements", and said that the Revanth Reddy government was making arbitrary decisions and running Tughlaq-style governance. He also slammed the Congress for its "inaction" over the past two years and for "failing to prioritise the State's development".
Yadav announced plans to organise a larger rally, with thousands expected to participate, in the first week of February, subject to obtaining the necessary court permissions. He appealed to like-minded parties and organisations to join the movement, and claimed that government intimidation would not dissuade the residents of Secunderabad.
