The South Central Railway (SCR) will take stringent measures to ensure cleanliness in the railway properties under its jurisdiction.
Addressing a press conference at the Secunderabad Railway Station on Monday, SCR General Manager P K Srivastava informed that steps were being taken to make the Secunderabad and Renigunta railway stations 'Clean Train Stations' (CTS).
The Vijayawada and Guntakal stations are already designated as CTS.
Srivastava said that the SCR had installed bio-toilets in 300 train coaches so far, and 260 more would be added in the next few months to eliminate the direct discharge toilet system.
Besides for security, the CCTV cameras in the SCR's jurisdiction would be utilised to monitor cleanliness activities
He said that a special cleanliness campaign would be launched in all railway stations on October 2 as part of the massive cleanliness programme being carried out across the country.
Railway officials will also interact with passengers to create awareness on the need to maintain cleanliness at railway stations and coaches as part of the campaign.
To help rail passengers facing theft/snatching issues, an all-in-one security helpline number '1322' will be launched on October 2, Srivastava said.
The SCR GM also informed that during the anti-littering activity, around Rs 40 lakhs in fine had been collected in the past 6 months. (INN)
