Union Minister Kishan Reddy today inaugurated the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in a temporary building.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that the university was being opened for now in the makeshift building, and that if the State government allotted land to the full extent needed, the university would take steps for the construction of a permanent campus. He said that the Centre would provide all the necessary assistance to the university, and that the university had been allotted Rs 900 crore by the Centre.
The Hyderabad Central University (University of Hyderabad) would be the nodal centre for the Sammakka Sarakka University and would provide all possible cooperation to it, Reddy said. The university would operate under the aegis of the UGC, he added.
He said that classes for the academic year 2024-25 would begin in the university soon, and that admissions would kick off shortly.
Reddy said that Telangana had a 9.8% tribal population, and that only 50% of them were even literate. He claimed that the PM was actively working for the development of the most backward tribals through the Maan Dhan scheme, for which Rs 24,000 crore had been allocated.
