The grand biennial tribal festival of Sammakka and Sarakka, being called the "Telangana Kumbh Mela", begins tomorrow (February 16).
The four-day festival will culminate on February 19.
Several lakh devotees, mainly tribals, from various states including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra and others with tribal population will offer prayers to the twin goddesses in the forest area during the festival.
The Telangana government has made all possible arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event. It has allotted Rs 350 crore for the facilities and arrangements needed for the event including transport, power and water supply, dressing rooms, bathing ghats and restrooms, and decorations of the jathara site to suit the occasion. The huge funds allotted this time are to create some permanent facilities too at the jathara site.
Ministers Indrakaran Reddy and Satyavathi Rathod have already visited the site and paid obeisance to the deities. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and DGP Mahender Reddy also visited and inspected the arrangements for the festival.
