Jai Andhra and Samaikyandhra rallies were foiled by the police, with the arrest of 'Jai Andhra' leaders in Vijayawada on Sunday.
The rally was planned to start from Deen Daya Bhavan and end at Lenin Centre. The Jai Andhra leaders, led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), organized this rally, which was put to ground by the police. Protesters were arrested and taken to Suryapet Police station.
Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samithi leader Naraharisetty Srihari was kept under house arrest by the police. Some women protestors were also arrested while they were raising slogans.
ACP T Hari Krishna said that the organizations did not have the persmission to create law and order problems, and that the rallies were therefore foiled.
The two groups attempted to take separate processions. The main cause of the rally was to depict that too much of attention was being paid to Hyderabad and other Telangana areas, and that coastal areas were being ignored.
Protestors raised slogans aiming at separation of the state for better administration.
U Srinivasa Raju, the BJP state official spokesman, said, "Many educationalists, industrialists and political leaders are investing in Hyderabad and Rangareddy Districts," and added, "People from coastal districts are suffering from poor drinking water, bad roads, bad education and poor medical facilities".
Security was later arranged at any junctions of the city to curb any further similar incidents.
