Shops and business establishments, transportation, educational institutions, banking and government institutions were badly hit ever since the agitation was launched.
Hyderabad | 29th August 2013
The Samaikyandhra agitation in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema entered its 30th day on Thursday.
While several elected representatives have submitted resignations from their posts, other non-political organisations, including the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers Association, are spearheading the agitation demanding that the Congress-led UPA government keep Andhra Pradesh united.
Shops and business establishments, transportation, educational institutions, banking and government institutions were badly hit in both the regions, ever since the agitation was launched.
The Samaikyandhra agitation is causing daily losses to the tune of several crores, for both the private and public sectors. The worst hit is the APSRTC, which is suffering a loss of Rs. 13 crore per day due to the strike.
With the Congress High Command remaining firm on its decision on the formation of Telangana, there are no indications on when the ongoing agitation will come to an end.
Meanwhile, Telangana leaders have alleged that the strike is superficial and being stage-managed by some Seemandhra leaders. They appealed to the striking unions to call off the strike and cooperate in the formation of a Telangana state. (INN)
