The 3 back-to-back Super Series title wins have propelled Hyderabadi girl Saina Nehwal to the second spot in the world ranking for female badminton players.
The city girl, who
declared that she was eyeing the Number 1 spot after her Indonesia Open title win, is on the verge of making her dream a reality.
Saina had captured the India Open Grand Prix title and the Singapore Open Super Series, to be followed by the Indonesia Open to catapult her to the World Number 3 spot in June.
The rankings, released on Thursday, gave Saina 64791.2637 points, second only to Yihan Wang of China. Another Chinese, Zin Wang, is in the 3rd spot.
Saina will feature in the World Badminton Championship to be held in Paris in August, to be followed by the Commonwealth Games, and then the Asian Games.
If Saina continues her recent brilliant form, then it is just a matter of time before the country achieves its dream of seeing an Indian at the pinnacle of world sport.
