Badminton stars Pullela Gopichand and Saina Nehwal are courting a different dimension to their popularity. They are now the brand ambassadors of the state government in its campaign to conserve energy.
They were roped in by a committee headed by Chief Secretary Minnie Mathews, that will create awareness on conserving energy, in the wake of the acute power shortage in the state.
Quoting text given to them by the government, they said, "Of two crore consumers, even if half of them switch off the tube light for one hour each, about 400 MW would be conserved. We are conserving energy, and hope everyone in the state will follow suit."
They expressed their solidarity with the government, and stressed the need for the austerity measure in saving power.
"Conserving energy is the social responsibility of every citizen," they said, adding that they would be part of the "conserve energy" campaign. (INN)
