Public transport facilities in Hyderabad and all of the rest of Telangana were under immense pressure on Wednesday too, the fifth day of the TSRTC strike.
A majority of the 10,400 buses of the State-owned utility remained confined to depots across the State as over 48,000 employees continued to stay away from duties (though it is unclear whether that is even the actual state of affairs now, since KCR says the 48,000+ are not employees of the TSRTC any more), and the TSRTC authorities are operating just skeletal services with the help of temporary drivers and other employees.
This has resulted in large numbers of commuters returning to Hyderabad from their home towns following the end of the Dasara vacation facing a tough time finding alternative public transport facilities like trains and private buses.
Reflecting the situation, the Secunderabad railway station was packed to the brim with passengers from the districts. And the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS), the two biggest bus stations in Hyderabad, wore near-deserted looks.
Few local buses were seen plying on the roads in the capital, too, and the daily commuters continued to face a tough time. The Metro train services were jam-packed, and private cars and auto-rickshaw drivers are charging high fares.
