Hyderabad | 15th April 2016
Expressing concern over the prevailing poor literacy rate in Telangana, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today asserted that the State government wanted to offer English medium education to every poor child through the KG-to-PG scheme in the State.
Addressing the media at the TRS office, Srihari, who also holds the education portfolio, stated that the development of any State would be possible only by providing education to all.
Towards this end, the minister claimed that the State government was committed to implementing the KG-to-PG scheme in full earnest to offer quality education to the poor and those who could not afford it. The government planned to do this in significant part through the Gurukul model of education, he stated.
The government intended to start 250 Gurukul institutions across the State, and expected to be spending about Rs. 20 crores for every Gurukul institution, he said, making the total expenditure for the initative about Rs. 5,000 crores.
Srihari extended his gratitude to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for initiating the scheme and funding the Gurukul institutions. These institutions would help the SC, ST and minority sections. As many as 10,000 posts needed to be filled, including those for 6,000 teaching and 4,000 non-teaching staff, for these institutions to offer quality education, Srihari mentioned.
