Reiterating that the TRS government was committed to providing quality and affordable education to all sections, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Education Kadiam Srihari today said that 529 residential institutions had been opened in the last two years as part of the KG-to-PG education policy.
Replying to a question by TDP MLA R Krishnaiah in the Assembly on Tuesday, Srihari said that the state government had been taking all possible measures to ensure quality education in the state.
Among these were measures to have a BC residential school in every Assembly constituency by the 2017-18 academic year, and the introduction of playschools, and nursery and kindergarten classes, in Anganwadi centres, and synchronizing them with primary schools, wherever space was not a constraint.
Efforts were also being made to set up one PG centre in every constituency headquarters.
Srihari also said that six government junior colleges and nine government degree colleges had commenced operations in the state since 2014.
Availability of funds was never a factor, and not a single government junior college or degree college had been closed for lack of funds, he asserted. He also said that no private vocational junior college management had approached the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education for closure since 2014-15.
The minister stated that a special meeting would be convened with the Roads & Buildings and Women & Child Welfare departments to discuss the modalities for improving the standard of education further.
On the measures taken to improve the state's results, Srihari said that meritorious students studying in government and residential junior colleges had been identified, and subject-wise special coaching classes were being conducted to improve their results in NEET and other competitive examinations.
