Chief Minister K Rosaiah will request Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to accord national status to the Polavarm Irrigation Project in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, and the Pranahita – Chevella project which supplies water for irrigation to around 16 lakh hectares in about 8 districts during his 2-day tour to Delhi.
Rosaiah will meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and may also meet union ministers Pranab Mukherjee, P Chidambaram, Veerappa Moily and other senior ministers.
Chief Minister informed media persons that as a part of Jalyagnam, Polavaram and Pranahita-Chevalla were being constructed and all the necessary technical works have been completed to provide 960 Mega watts of electricity, water for irrigation, drinking water and water for industries.
Rosaiah will stress on the importance of securing national status for the the irrigation projects, under which 7.2 lakh hectare of land will be brought under cultivation, and will would indirectly increase the wealth of nation.
The Chief Minister is expected to urge the Prime Minister to clear the file which has already been given all the necessary permissions from the central government.
Rosaiah revealed that these projects involved the expenditure of Rs. 40 thousand crore, and would change the fate of the Telangana region by benefiting districts like Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Warangal. He said that the State government will seek financial help from the central government to complete the projects.
Rosaiah will also argue against the petitions filed by other states in Supreme Court with an intention to delay the national project status to be given to Polavarm Irrigation Project.
The CM will seek the release of funds for the State in order to reach the aim of central government to achieve 2-4% growth rate increase.
