Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Sunday formally launched Jawahar Bala Aarogya Raksha scheme which is aimed at providing health cover to about 85 lakh schoolchildren of the state at Narsingi in Rangareddy district.
Talking to media persons after handing over 3 health cards to children of the district, the Chief Minister said that the Bala Aarogya Raksha scheme would cover 85 lakh school children whose parents lived below the poverty line, and were unable to afford health care expenses.
Under the scheme, Rosaiah said, the government would conduct health checkups for school children twice a year, and provide effective treatment for those children who need it.
The Chief Minister also stated that under the scheme, officials of Education, Medical and Health, Women and Child Welfare departments would have to coordinate with each other to ensure its success.
As part of the scheme, Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM) would train teachers to recognise students with health problems. The Women and Child department will provide nutritious food to students suffering from malnutrition, and the Medical department will provide treatment free of cost.
