Hyderabad | 4th July 2021
The two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh witnessed a number of unfortunate road accidents that left several dead.

In Telangana, three commuters, Shaik Qamaruddin (35), Syed Jameel (22), and Syed Bablu (27), who were travelling on a scooter from Chandrayangutta towards Aramgarh junction, were run over by a cement tanker. The accident happened when the driver of the two-wheeler, who reportedly had a prosthetic hand, lost control over his vehicle.

All three deceased were natives of Maharashtra and had been living in Hyderabad's Langar House area.

Police reports say that after they fell, the tanker ran them over, killing the youngsters on the spot. The incident took place at Mailardevpally last night. A case has been booked and the matter is being investigated.

In another road accident in Hyderabad's Gachibowli, four children were left injured when an auto-rickshaw carrying them capsized after ramming into a divider.

Meanwhile, two bikers were killed on Alipiri road in Tirupati, in Andhra Pradesh, after they collided with a lorry. The driver of the lorry has reportedly been taken into police custody.

Besides this, two people, travelling from Rajahmundry towards Vijayawada, this morning lost their lives when their car hit a culvert on the freeway at Ungujuru's Badampudi area, in West Godavari district. The collision also left three people injured. It is being said that the driver's drowsiness and speeding may have caused the mishap.

This spate of accidents, that have claimed eight lives in all, will likely raise the issue of road safety in the two states yet again.
