Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Working President and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday took oath as a member of the Lok Sabha reading from his mobile.
Reddy declined to take the oath from the note handed over to him by the officials of the Parliament. He instead read out the oath in Telugu from his phone, surprising other MPs from Telangana.
The oath-taking sequence of the MPs from the State began with the administration of the oath to the Adilabad MP, the BJP's Soyam Babu Rao. Later, other Telangana MPs including Nama Nageswara Rao, P Ramulu, K Venkat Reddy, P Dayakar, K Prabhakar Reddy, Kavitha Maloth, B Sanjay Kumar, D Arvind, Dr Ranjith Reddy, B B Patil, Manne Srinivas Reddy, P Ramulu, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also took their oath in Telugu.
Four-time Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi took his oath in Urdu amidst sloganeering. MPs from the BJP raised Vandemataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogans when Owaisi was going to take his oath, and he mockingly encouraged them to be louder. He concluded his own oath with the slogan "Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Takbeer, Allahu Akbar, Jai Hind". Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy, seated on the first row, was seen gesticulating to his party MPs to cut down the sloganeering as Owaisi began taking his oath.
