Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar today strongly criticised MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for the latter's remarks suggesting that the Indian Constitution was under threat from the RSS ideology.
Sanjay was speaking at a function to sanction Rs 15 lakh for the digital library of lawyers in the District Court Complex in Karimnagar.
The Union minister accused the AIMIM of being anti-national, and said that the Modi government was committed to a nationalist ideology and would not hesitate to take tough decisions in the interest of the nation.
He also claimed that the Waqf Board Amendment Bill was receiving widespread support across the country and would soon be passed in the Parliament.
"We have gathered opinions from across the country on the Waqf Board Amendment Bill. The Parliamentary committee has reviewed the matter and submitted its report. The bill will be passed very soon. It is inappropriate to view it through a religious lens and attempt to block it. Those who do so risk alienating the people. I am well aware of the hardships faced by the poor due to the way the Waqf Board operates," he said.
Sanjay took the opportunity to also speak about the lawyers' support during his personal struggle. "I have fought many battles for the people and faced multiple legal cases. I have 109 cases against me and have been to jail several times. Each time, lawyers have defended me. I will continue to support their welfare in every possible way. I will also strive to secure an additional Rs 50 lakh from CSR funds for the lawyers' conference hall," he said.
MLC Anji Reddy; former Mayor Sunil Rao; and Bar Association President Raj Kumar, Secretary Bethi Mahender and members Basa Satyanarayana and Komala Anjaneyulu were present at the event.
