A Nampally court today issued summons to TPCC chief and MP A Revanth Reddy in the sensational cash-for-vote scam.
The court has taken up the trial in the case on the basis of the charge sheet filed by the police. In this regard, the court also issued summons to the other accused in the case including TDP MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, Bishop Sebastian Harry, Udaya Sinha, and Krishna Keerthana. It asked the accused to appear before it on October 4.
Earlier this month, Revanth Reddy, along with some of the other accused, had
appeared in a special ACB court dealing with the scam.
During the hearing, the court had recorded the statement of former Assembly Secretary Sada Rajaram who was the returning officer for the MLC election during which the Congress leader had attempted to "buy" votes.
The Congress MP has been embroiled in what seems to be a never-ending legal battle over the matter for years now. He and various others were accused of crimes under the Prevention of Corruption Act and section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC for their involvement in an instance of attempted vote-buying in May 2015 after Telangana nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson lodged a complaint with the ACB alleging that he was offered Rs 5 crores by Reddy to vote in favour of a TDP MLC nominee in the Legislative Council elections held on June 1 that year.
