Hyderabad | 13th February 2025
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with IT & Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, today inaugurated Microsoft's new campus in Hyderabad.
The new campus marks a major milestone as the tech giant celebrates 25 years in the city.
The state-of-the-art 1.1 million sq ft LEED-certified building in Gachibowli will accommodate 2,500 additional employees, reinforcing Hyderabad's status as a global IT powerhouse.
Microsoft's largest R&D hub outside the US, its Hyderabad centre currently employs over 10,000 professionals - half of Microsoft's workforce in India. With the launch of this new facility, the company plans to hire an additional 4,800 employees.
On the occasion, Microsoft announced a strategic partnership with the Telangana government to provide AI training to over 1.2 lakh individuals under the ADVANTA(I)GE TELANGANA initiative. The tech giant will introduce AI education in 500 government schools, benefiting 50,000 students through the AI Foundations Academy.
Its AI-Industry Pro program is supposed to upskill 20,000 industry professionals, and the AI-Govern initiative aims to train 50,000 government officials in areas such as digital productivity, generative AI and cybersecurity.
To bolster AI development, Microsoft will establish an AI Centre of Excellence (AICoE) in collaboration with the Telangana government. This centre will build cloud-based infrastructure and a centralised AI Knowledge Hub to compile research, case studies and best practices benefiting thousands across the State.
Microsoft also announced plans to double its investment in hyperscale AI data centres in Telangana, committing an additional Rs 15,000 crore over the coming years. This investment will make Hyderabad one of Microsoft's largest global data hubs.
An MoU formalizing these initiatives was signed between Microsoft and the ITE&C Department in the presence of the CM and the IT minister.
The agreement follows the Chief Minister's meeting with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in January 2025, where both parties committed to modernising government IT infrastructure and accelerating AI adoption.
Congratulating Microsoft, the CM said, "Hyderabad and Microsoft have grown together. Today, the world looks at Hyderabad as a technology powerhouse that nurtures innovation and attracts global talent. With partners like Microsoft, our future is even brighter."
Sridhar Babu added, "Microsoft's expansion and AI initiatives reflect their commitment to sustainability, inclusivity and innovation in Telangana."
Rajiv Kumar, Managing Director & President of Microsoft India Development Centre, said, "This new facility underscores our commitment to Telangana's innovation ecosystem and India's vision of becoming an AI-first nation. It will provide world-class infrastructure for our teams to innovate and develop next-generation AI products."
