Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and IT & Industries Minister Sridhar Babu today achieved a significant milestone during their meeting with senior executives of Amazon Web Services (AWS) at the World Economic Forum, with AWS committing to investing Rs 60,000 crore in data centres across Telangana.
The Telangana team told the AWS executives that the State government had many initiatives that fostered a business-friendly environment, especially for establishing data centre infrastructure. They also said that the State held strategic importance for AWS operations in India.
Sources report that as a result of the discussions, AWS committed to significantly expanding its data centres in Hyderabad. This expansion will position Hyderabad as a critical hub for AWS's cloud services in India, including for its advancements in artificial intelligence.
AWS also requested the allocation of additional land for its expansion, which the government has agreed to.
Hailing the investment decision, the Telangana CM said, "We are delighted by the growing confidence of global businesses like Amazon in making unprecedented investments in our State. The efforts of the past year have truly borne fruit. This is Telangana Rising in action."
Sridhar Babu said that the deal solidified Hyderabad's position as the data centre hub of India and an undisputed leader in the sector.
AWS had earlier already announced plans to invest USD 4.4 billion in Telangana by 2030 to develop its cloud infrastructure. So far, it has developed three sites in the State with an investment of approximately USD 1 billion, all of which are now operational.
